Micah Gamble, MD
After graduating from Baylor with a B.A. in Medical Humanities in 2017, Micah Gamble went on to medical school at UT Southwestern where he completed his M.D. in May 2021. He is now in residency at Ventura County (CA) Medical Center Family Medicine. Micah says he will never forget Dr. Jeff Levin’s Spiritual Healing, a small-group medical humanities seminar Micah took during his senior year at Baylor. “We read a study about the scientific value of speaking positively and negatively to plants and how that resulted in the plants’ growth or stunting. I am reminded of that study whenever I am speaking with a patient, knowing that my words matter.”
“A great deal of health is beyond what I can explain objectively. My foundation in the medical humanities plays a huge role in helping me understand the subjectivity within my patients’ experiences of their medical condition.” - Micah Gamble, MD
Micah continues: “A great deal of health is beyond what I can explain objectively. My foundation in the medical humanities plays a huge role in helping me understand the subjectivity within my patients’ experiences of their medical condition.” Micah says he often takes for granted what he learned in his time in medical humanities but then he realizes how far ahead it has put him in taking better care of his patients.
And don’t think Micah is just about work. He and Ally married in the middle of Micah’s second year in medical school and she is pursuing a PhD in social psychology. They enjoy hiking and adventuring to new places, game nights with friends, and are deeply committed to their personal walk with Jesus Christ.
