Stephen J. Spann, MD

Dr. Stephen J. Spann

Dr. Stephen J. Spann, an alumnus of Baylor University and Baylor College of Medicine, is the founding dean of the Tilman J. Fertitta Family College of Medicine at the University of Houston.  Over his decades-long medical career, Dr. Spann has served on the faculty of seven medical schools around the world and held leadership roles, including dean of two medical schools and Chief Medical Officer of a major teaching hospital in the United Arab Emirates.

Raised in Uruguay in a missionary family, Dr. Spann has remained deeply committed serving underserved populations through medical missions and global health initiatives.  He has been instrumental in the development of Family Medicine across Latin America and other regions, shaping access to care and improving healthcare systems globally.
