Spring 2025 Course Offerings
Disrupting Racial Disparities in Healthcare
The course examines current racial, economic, and geographic health disparities, including a deep dive into the historical and policy influences that have exacerbated these disparities. As you may know, my background is public health, so I really approach this class as an opportunity for students to get a crash course in developing solutions in an evidence-based manner. I seek to balance the hard truths of inequities by also emphasizing examples of disparity disruption – what is working right now that promotes individual agency and sustainability. – Dr. Cunningham
History of Women in Medicine
Women have been contributing to the body of medical knowledge and practice throughout history, and yet the stories of their roles as healers have largely been marginalized from the dominant narratives of medical history. In addition to discovering profiles of remarkable scientists and clinicians, this course seeks to understand perceptions of women in a cultural context and how those perceptions influenced the integration of women into healthcare. - Dr. Cunningham
Supervised Hospice Care
Taught by Professor David Stamile, this course immerses students in hands-on hospice experience including shadowing among hospice professionals and patient companionship in combinations with readings and discussions with a peer group, hospice staff, and the professor.
